UN HABITAT SUPPORTS NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS UNDER THE ARAB REGION PROGRAM ON GOOD LAND GOVERNANCE |

On behalf of the Arab Land Initiative’s Partners, the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) and UN Habitat are launching a Call for Proposals to solicit interest from non-profit organizations from the Arab region to implement activities under the “Arab region programme on good land governance in support to inclusive development, peace and stability”, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Submission deadline is 17 July 2019.

The Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) is a dynamic and multi-sectoral alliance of more than 75 global, regional and national multi-sector partners committed to increasing access to land and tenure security for all, with a particular focus on the poor, women and youth.

The key aspects of the GLTN work in the region are:

  • The Arab Land Governance Initiative
  • Capacity development on land
  • Adaptation and implementation of GLTN land tools at country level
  • Increasing women access to land

Equal access to land and enhanced tenure security are crucial for poverty reduction, e.g. by providing access to financial and economic resources and by increasing food security. Thus, access to and control over land by both women and men can trigger broader social and economic development.
Land ownership, increased knowledge about the economic value of land as well as a secure access to land administration and land related services (surveying, planning, registering, etc.) are key factors for empowering people in both rural and urban settings.

Access to and control over productive resources, including land, and independent income strengthens the land holder’s autonomy and brings about long-term benefits for society. This economic independence is particularly important in conflict- and post-conflict settings, where the threat of forced eviction is diminished.

The “Arab region programme on good land governance in support to inclusive development, peace and stability” has four priorities:

  • Promote collaboration and coordination
  • Develop and share knowledge
  • Develop capacities of individuals and organizations
  • Support the implementation of existing land-related programmes and interventions in selected countries through the use of fit-for-purpose land tools and approaches

A total of ten Agreements of Cooperation will be signed with selected partners to implement knowledge and capacity development activities in the fields of:

  • Land and Conflict
  • Monitoring land governance and land tenure security
  • Land, women empowerment and socio-economic development
  • Capacity and Knowledge Development
  • Fit-for-Purpose Land Administration
  • Land, Natural Resources and Climate Change
  • The role of Land Professionals, Civil society and Private sector in the Land governance
  • Land-related legal and institutional frameworks
The work under each Agreement of Cooperation will be implemented in partnership with GLTN and in collaboration with other regional and international GLTN partners.
