Turkish Language Engineer

• Native or near-native fluency in Turkish
• Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. Python, bash)
• Knowledge of phonetics/phonology and ability to analyze/validate phonetic transcriptions
• Practical knowledge of version control and agile development
• Knowledge of Unix/Linux command line tools
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills

We are seeking a Language Engineer with experience in the field of computational linguistics or natural language processing and native or near-native proficiency in Turkish.

You will:

• Work on a high-impact, high-visibility product, with your work improving the experience of millions of customers
• Develop and deliver logical, testable, maintainable, and efficient language modeling solutions
• Closely collaborate with our research scientists and software engineers
• Apply data science techniques to analyze system performance and identify areas for improvement
• Analyze large or noisy language data sets and accurately describe patterns to derive conclusions and inform language modeling decisions
• Identify tooling needs and aid long-term scalable tool development to automate cross-team work
• Apply a range of NLP methods in practical application, as well as develop NLP components: write rules, build grammars/FSTs, create annotation systems or mappings for the target language
• Collaborate with other engineers and scientists in data collection and development efforts
• Write clear and concise documents (e.g. analysis reports)

• Graduate degree in Computational Linguistics (or equivalent field with computational emphasis); alternatively, 5 years’ experience in the field
• Basic familiarity with machine learning
• Hands-on experience working with natural language processing or speech processing
• Experience in writing grammars and building FSTs
• Experience with statistical language modeling
• Strong personal interest in learning, researching, and creating new technologies related to foreign languages, linguistics, phonetics, phonology and language technology
• Practical knowledge of version control systems (e.g. Git) and agile development
• Feeling comfortable and motivated when working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment
