The Site Management and Monitoring (SM&M) department, a country based organisation with staff in over 30 countries, is responsible for leading the delivery of clinical trials at a country level. Our mission is to ensure that high quality study data is collected in a timely and productive way to support Oncology R&D and BioPharmaceuticals R&D strategies.

What you’ll do

In the role as Regional Finance & Capacity Management Associate Director, SM&M, you will be responsible for leading the financial activities within the Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) region to shape the organization’s future through the implementation of country- and regional-wide Development Operations level strategies.

You’ll be able to impact both strategically and operationally by defining the region’s strategic direction for finance within the parameters of the global strategy, as well as developing operating plans and budgets to ensure the effective delivery of business objectives. Additionally, you will coach and motivate across countries to ensure that accountabilities are clear and objectives are delivered.  You will work very collaboratively with your counterparts in other regions and will deliver significant business and process improvements.

Furthermore, you’ll drive financial and resource effectiveness through ensuring optimized country financial and resource figures and enablement of a cross-functional approach to forecast regional spend and headcount.

You will have regional responsibility for capacity management as the team transitions in this new responsibility.  You will strongly understand the current and near term portfolio as well as the resource implications and strategies associated with this.

You will report to the Global Head Finance & Capacity Management SM&M. As a member of  the SM&M AMEA Regional Leadership Team, you’ll be responsible for translating the Development Operations strategy into goals and action, demonstrating a deep understanding of the relationship between the business strategy and finance.

We will rely on you to:

  • Be the champion of delivery efficiency and implement and assess relevant KPIs and adopt proactive communication towards the region to facilitate continuous performance improvement

  • Manage costs to support study delivery within budget and report costs of country-level study activities within the SM&M portfolio

  • Ensure compliance with Financial control framework, financial business processes e.g. CTA guidelines and Fair Market Value (FMV) of costs.

  • Creates effective relationships with internal and external partners to ensure that the region’s objectives remain aligned to Development Operations business.

  • Facilitate country-level communication and understanding between the SM&M, and provide guidance and training to ensure consistent and compliant usage of tools and processes across all countries

  • Acts as a business partner, creating a climate that enables everyone to contribute to performance and continuous improvement

Essential for the role

You hold a University degree in the finance or management field, which is complemented by excellent knowledge in and experience of business operations, financial analysis, and financial control. Furthermore, you have experience of successfully working in a global cross-functional project management team. This is evidenced by your awareness and sensitivity to cultural diversity as well as your ability to influence strategically and tactfully.

Your collaboration skills are excellent, including high proficiency in verbal and written English, and you manage changes with a positive approach by being flexible and goal oriented.

You also possess:

  • Experience in working with budgets totalling $100+ million

  • Ability to demonstrate authority among regional clinical leadership team

  • Results oriented with high sense of urgency

  • Integrity and high ethical standards

Desirable for the role

  • Familiarity with clinical research, from industry, CRO or academic work-experience

  • Demonstrated authority among finance and project peers

  • Experience within one or more countries within the region
