PROJECT GO ASSISTANT DIRECTOR AND WISLI SUMMER LANGUAGE COORDINATOR

Position Summary:
The Project GO Assistant Director and WISLI Summer Language Coordinator will work with the Wisconsin Intensive Summer Language Institutes (WISLI) (40%) and the Project Global Officers (Project GO) (60%). Both PGO and WISLI fall under the purview of the Language Program Office, a member of the International Division, serving communities engaged in learning, teaching, and researching Less Commonly Taught Languages. The LPO is the home of the Wisconsin Intensive Summer Language Institutes (WISLI), Project GO at UW-Madison, the American Institute of Pakistan Studies, and the Regional Flagship Languages Initiatives for Hindi, Indonesian, Turkish, and Urdu.

The position will be responsible for coordinating all activities related to the preparation for and delivery of the Arabic Persian and Turkish Language Institute (APTLI) and will be cross-trained to help coordinate related WISLI programs along with other WISLI staff. The position will also manage the execution of the Project GO at UW-Madison program, ensuring that PGO student needs are met throughout all stages of the PGO program, working alongside PGO leadership, as well as UW and external partners.

This position will involve assisting with and being present for after-hours and weekend activities.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor’s degree required. Interest and/or speaking ability in one or more of the PGO (Hindi, Indonesian, Russian, Turkish, Urdu) or APTLI (Arabic, Persian, Turkish) languages preferred; regional knowledge of one or more of the areas where the PGO and APTLI languages are spoken preferred. Experience with study abroad program administration is desirable.

Clear and effective communication skills working with a variety of students, instructors, and program partners

Ability to work as a member of a team, while also self-motivated to independently complete individual duties and meet deadlines

Ability to maintain flexibility with shifting tasks, priorities, and deadlines

Ability to prioritize workload, manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively, and independently follow through on tasks

Friendly and open demeanor and an openness to working with people from varied backgrounds

Interest and/or experience in international education, world languages and cultures, study abroad, or similar topics strongly preferred
