Managing Editor

Mashriq & Mahjar Journal of Middle Eastern and North African Migration Studies is seeking a Managing Editor who will be responsible for the journalâ??s copy editing process. Mashriq & Mahjar is an online, open-access, peer-reviewed academic journal devoted to disseminating original research on migration from, to, and within the Middle East and North Africa. The journal accepts submissions on all aspects of human movement and the circulation of ideas, cultural artifacts, and commodities, from the disciplinary perspectives of history, anthropology, economics, political science, sociology, art history, literary studies, and comparative religion.

Copyediting and proofreading articles, book reviews, review essays, research notes, conference reports, blog posts, etc.;

Maintain journal style guides of submissions using Chicago style endnotes and Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed. Transliteration of terms in Arabic, Persian, Ottoman, Turkish, and Urdu (follows a simplified version of the International Journal of Middle Eastern Studies (IJMES) standard);

Maintain high standards of quality and accuracy for editing an academic journal.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of MA in History or related field

1+ years of editing MENA content for an academic journal or relevant experience;

Demonstrated editorial judgment;

Excellent writing, grammar, and editorial skills in English;

Proficiency in editing electronically with Microsoft Word’s â??Track Changesâ?? feature;

Strong knowledge of OJS and e-publishing

Detail oriented, organized, and focused on accuracy;

Ability to work on multiple projects and deadlines with clarity and consistency.
