Junior Data Scientist

What we’re looking for

We are excited to be recruiting for a Data Scientist to join our ever-expanding Business Intelligence team. Reporting to our Lead Data Strategist, you will be hugely important in driving our business forward! You’ll use your experience of the latest data science techniques to identify opportunities and make recommendations to deliver projects that provide value to Ascensos and our clients.

Although an academic background in a related subject is preferred, more important is a passion for working with complex data sets and solving problems. A solid understanding of Machine Learning, plus either Python or R, is essential. We’re looking for the right candidate, so geography is no boundary.

What to expect

• Proactively identify opportunities for personalisation and improvements to the customer experience.
• Analyze raw data: assessing quality, cleansing, structuring for downstream processing.
• Design accurate and scalable prediction algorithms.
• Generate actionable insights for business improvements.
• Use expert knowledge of data science techniques and statistics to lead and regularly deliver complex projects with a robust commercial approach, being mindful that operationalisation is a critical success criterion.
• Implement a highly visual and commercial approach when delivering data science projects that engage and challenge non-technical audiences’ thinking.
• Working with data applying machine learning and statistics to business problems.
• Identifying new data sources suitable for analysis and implementation.
• Supporting deployment of automation throughout the business.
• Contribute to the team’s long-term vision by going beyond current capabilities and introducing data science solutions into everyday business problems.

You

• Numerical degree or higher, preferred.
• Good understanding of predictive modelling, machine-learning, clustering and classification techniques, and algorithms.
• Proficiency with analytical tools like R/Python and familiarity with SQL.
• Familiarity with visualization tools.
• Understanding of data science techniques covering regression, classification and segmentation problems.
• Statistical modelling and statistics experience.
• Experience in using datasets.
• Knowledge of machine learning.
• Excellent people skills — you’ll be meeting with stakeholders to translate business needs into data science problems.
• A critical thinker with very strong attention to detail.
