Duties & Responsibilities:

Job Overview:

VIAVI is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer II to support customers across the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada, with a focus on the Seattle and Vancouver technology hubs. In this role, you will be a key technical partner within VIAVI’s regional sales team, helping strategic customers adopt and maximize our industry-leading networking, cloud, and cybersecurity testing solutions.

You will act as a trusted advisor to customers, working hands-on with technologies ranging from L2/L3 networking and routing protocols to L4–L7 application performance and advanced security validation. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate directly with global innovators in cloud, networking, and security, ensuring they can design, validate, and deploy with confidence.

Job Responsibilities:

Pre-Sales Engineering & Consulting

  • Serve as the primary technical consultant supporting sales opportunities across assigned accounts.
  • Partner with account managers and senior leaders to address customer business challenges with VIAVI solutions.
  • Customize product presentations and deliver compelling technical demonstrations aligned with customer goals.

Customer Engagement & Evaluation

  • Manage technical evaluations and proof-of-concept processes, ensuring milestones and expectations are met.
  • Build trusted advisor relationships with key customers, particularly NEM accounts, offering strategic guidance.
  • Provide post-sales technical support, including training and enablement as needed.

Collaboration & Feedback

  • Work closely with internal teams (Product Management, Engineering, and Support) to resolve customer issues and share feature requests.
  • Anticipate customer needs and qualify opportunities through active collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Market & Technical Expertise

  • Stay current with networking, cloud, and security trends to position Spirent solutions effectively.
  • Represent VIAVI as a technical expert in customer meetings, presentations, and industry discussions.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Job Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Minimum 8 years of industry experience in a technical engineering role.

Technical Expertise

  • Strong background in networking, network security, telecommunications, and applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of routing protocols: IPv4/IPv6, RIP, BGP, OSPF, and ISIS.
  • Hands-on experience with IP and Ethernet technologies (Data Center Ethernet, 400G/100G/40G/10G, L4–L7 technologies, Cloud Services, and Virtualization).
  • Experience with AI networking including RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCEv2) and Collective Communications Library (CCL).
  • Familiarity with application security protocols: HTTP/2, HTTPS, TLS 1.2/1.3, SSL, SSH, TCP/IP, Streaming Media.
  • Experience with security devices: NGFWs, load balancers, IDS, IPS.
  • Experience with commercial test platforms such as Spirent TestCenter, Avalanche, CyberFlood, Ixia, or BreakingPoint (preferred).

Programming & Automation

  • Scripting or programming experience in Python, TCL/TK, C/C++, Java, or Perl (beneficial).
  • Knowledge of RESTful APIs for automation and integration (a plus).

Certifications

  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCIE, JNCIA, or CISSP are desirable.

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to address technical challenges effectively.
  • Excellent listening, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the assigned region.
