Solutions Consultant – Vertica Presales

Vertica is an advanced analytics database that helps organizations analyze large volumes of data at high speed with built-in machine learning, scalability, and SQL-based analytics. Our presales team works closely with customers to help them unlock the full potential of their data, optimize performance, and drive business insights with a cost-effective, highly performant database platform.

The Opportunity

The Solution Consultant (SC) is a key member of the Vertica sales team, collaborating to identify and develop revenue opportunities within new and existing accounts. This role involves understanding complex customer requirements, positioning Vertica as the optimal solution, and demonstrating how Vertica’s capabilities drive real business value. The SC is responsible for technical discovery, solution validation, proof-of-concepts (PoCs), and building trust with customers through technical expertise.

You Are Great At:

• Partnering with Account Executives to effectively communicate Vertica’s value proposition to prospects and customers.
• Understanding customer pain points and architecting solutions using Vertica’s unique features, including columnar storage, advanced compression, workload isolation, and ML/AI capabilities.
• Delivering compelling, tailored product demonstrations and hands-on PoCs based on customer requirements.
• Presenting technical and business benefits to stakeholders, from data engineers to C-level executives.
• Qualifying opportunities by assessing the competitive landscape, solution fit, and customer needs.
• Responding to RFx requests with well-structured, accurate technical responses.
• Identifying new use cases and opportunities to expand Vertica adoption across customer environments.
• Staying ahead of market trends, including data warehousing, cloud deployments, and AI-driven analytics.

What It Takes:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field, with at least 3 years of experience in technical presales, data engineering, or analytics.
• Deep understanding of modern data architectures, including Kubernetes, VM, cloud, hybrid, and on-premises deployments.
• Proficiency in SQL, database performance tuning, and optimization techniques.
• Hands-on experience with Vertica or equivalent analytics platforms like Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, SingleStore, etc.
• Familiarity with ETL processes, data pipeline orchestration, and data lake architectures.
• Proficiency in BI tools, data visualization techniques, and dashboard development for actionable insights.
• Experience working with Linux environments, scripting (Python, Bash), and distributed computing frameworks, with strong knowledge of storage systems, OS management, networking, and Linux installation.
• A self-learner with expertise in operating systems, databases, data warehousing, and analytics.
• Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI DSS.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business value for non-technical audiences.
• Ability to manage multiple opportunities and engage with both technical and business stakeholders.
