Foundational Technology Development Europe Türkiye Simulation is a Software R&D Group in Ankara. This group brings together the fields of utility network planning, simulation, analysis and network model management with the PSS® and Gridscale X Product Suites. Grid Simulation is a focus area which employs new ways throughout the different fields of application to build proficient software solutions and products. To accomplish the mission of the group, the candidate will perform Grid Protection Domain Expert role.

We are seeking an Experienced Grid Protection Domain Expert to develop software solutions and products.

What are my responsibilities?

  • Contribute to the product functionalities and development of Gridscale X Protection Data Manager, aligning with market trends, customer needs, and Siemens’ strategic objectives by collaborating with Product Manager & Owner and development teams,
  • Proactively identify and develop innovative product features that address emerging challenges and opportunities within the Grid Protection domain,
  • Provide deep domain expertise in the field of protection relays and its parameters and transfer this into technical guidance for the development of our software product,
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of Gridscale X Protection Data Manager domain features, focusing on data correctness, integrity, and adherence to industry standards and specifications,
  • Provide expert input for troubleshooting complex Grid Protection domain related issues and support resolution efforts with global internal and external Siemens stakeholders.

You will collaborate closely with all stakeholders such as developers, test engineers, architects, Product Owners/Managers, Technical Sales, and Release Train Engineer (SAFe role) to communicate all aspects of Grid Protection domain expertise.

To this end, you will provide technical input for risk assessment and management, making maximum use of the Jira ALM Suite.

You will also support system and software architects as well as project team members in all quality related aspects, such as design for testability, specification and breakdown of grid protection domain related requirements and definition of non-functional requirements.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. and/or M.S. degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering (or similar fields),
  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in Grid Protection. Knowledge of related industry standards (e.g., IEC 61850, IEEE) is a plus.
  • Experience with relay management and protection function & parameters for analysis, testing and validation, from multiple relay vendors including but not limited to Siemens, SEL, GE, ABB, Schneider Electric,
  • Strong interest in modern grid challenges, renewable energy integration, and digitalization trends within the energy sector.
  • Hands-on experience with multiple vendor relay configuration tools like DIGSI and understanding of data exchange formats (JSON, XML),

Preferable Additional skills/experiences (i.e., is a plus):

  • Previous utility, vendor or power consulting experience,
  • Familiarity with data analysis methodologies and tools relevant to power system data and operational technology (OT) environments, like SCADA systems, including RTUs and RTACs, and their role in protection and control environments,
  • Familiarity with software development processes and ability to communicate technical requirements effectively,
  • Practical engineering experience in power system analysis software applications such as PSS®SINCAL or Gridscale X Advanced Protection Assessment (formerly PSS®CAPE),
  • Hands-on experience with multiple vendor relay configuration tools like DIGSI and understanding of data exchange formats (JSON, XML),
  • Knowledge of enterprise asset management systems and SQL databases,
  • Knowledge in using ALM tools for tracking agile processes (e.g., JIRA),

  • Excellent target group-oriented communication of complex issues and interpersonal communication,
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills,
  • A keen eye for detail and strong analytical skills for conducting thorough testing and validation of data correctness and integrity within grid protection systems,
  • Ability to translate market needs, customer challenges, and technological advancements into innovative product features,
  • Strong self-organization including ability to work independently and manage time effectively,
  • Being a teammate with a collaborative, self-motivated, customer focused, positive and upbeat attitude,
  • Eager to learn new technologies and tools,
  • Comfortable interpreting and understanding initially unfamiliar concepts,
  • Communication and presentation skills to present complex topics in a simple and consistent way.

What else do I need to know?

  • Fluent command of English is a must, German is a plus.
  • No restrictions for travelling abroad temporarily.
