The Senior Category Manager position is for a candidate with proven analytical capabilities and project management skills, great attention to detail, and the ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task with a proven record of driving category growth. The candidate must be an effective leader and communicator in working with Trendyol’s most important partners and vendors, as well as with internal colleagues and cross-functional leaders. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a passion for retail and a high level of flexibility and commitment.
The position requires someone who can work autonomously in a fast paced and ambiguous environment. The successful candidate would possess great business judgment, with a track record of delivering results. The right candidate would be adept at using data to identify the right selection for the market, designing and sourcing these products through strong commercial negotiations to secure favorable terms, managing relationships with tier 1 suppliers, while having strong analytical acumen. Additionally, this position involves working with multiple stakeholders (compliance, marketing, legal, supply chain, among others), and hence we need strong stakeholder management capabilities.

YOUR PROFILE

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
    • 10+ years of relevant senior level experience in retail, operations, and/or business management/consulting with a proven track record of delivering results
    • 10+ years’ experience in negotiations and vendor management.
    • Excellent collaboration skills that enable you to earn trust at all levels.
    • Extreme attention to detail and willingness to roll up your sleeves.
    • Ability to effectively work with remote teams across continents and deliver results. 
    • Advanced experience with Excel, or other analytical/Business Intelligence tools.
    • Highly polished communication skills – speaking, writing, presenting and negotiating.
    • Ability to operate simultaneously and effectively in both tactical and strategic modes.
    • Working in a start-up or early stage environment where you will be defining best practice for your function.

YOUR CHALLENGE

    • Act as the business owner for assigned categories, possessing a complete understanding including the strategic context of the variables that impact your business.
    • Have a thorough understanding of the industry, seasonality and business trends/events, and continually monitor competitor/industry developments.
    • Establish and implement the strategy for your categories in terms of selection, pricing, promotions, brands, among others.
    • While being data oriented, build out the selection strategy for your category for international markets using local brands. 
    • Innovate; monitor trends to identify market demands for new product innovations. Anticipate customer expectations, changing customer perceptions and share insight with the leadership team.
    • Manage the P&L of your category, driving continuous margin improvement through cost outs and operational improvements. Create budgets for annual volume and margin targets. Create sustainable process improvements which drives year over-year progress in the business. Analyze product lines to ensure they are meeting or exceeding growth and profitability objectives. Double down on Hero products.
    • Manage vendor relationships – manage supplier/partner contracts, manage day-to-day relationships, and negotiate and secure marketing funds.
    • Have a complete understanding of the customer needs, both existing and potential, and use that knowledge to advocate for and drive delivery of site features that provide Trendyol customers with an unparalleled shopping experience.
    • Coordinate cross-functional teams, and communicate with internal and external parties, while meeting tight deadlines.
