About the role

Location: Tuzla Istanbul / TURKEY

Reporting to: Supply Chain Manager TINA (Turkey, Iran & North Africa)

The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for actively participating in the strategic sourcing activities for Turkey with the goal of achieving significant initial cost reductions, while maintaining and improving product quality and vendor service levels.

The Purchasing Specialist will ensure that the raw materials are available for Manufacturing and will lead, coordinate and rationalize the buying activity in line with the local targets as well as reporting purchasing activities and market trends. It is expected for Purchasing Specialist to have the highest cooperation with the other departments and with optimized processes and procedures in order to reach the common targets.

Key responsibilities

Select local suppliers that best match the business needs for quality, delivery, flexibility, responsiveness, and costs, in cooperation with the other involved departments (QHSE, RD&A) & in agreement with the country’s strategy
Negotiate effectively favourable terms & conditions for materials supply
Draw up & maintain long term partnership contracts with key suppliers not negotiated at regional level
Harmonize & optimize in cooperation with the local management the list of approved suppliers
Monitor the performance of the local suppliers in terms of:

  • On time delivery
  • Quality of received materials
  • Flexibility and responsiveness to demand changes
  • Cost, by constant benchmark vs. competitors & market
  • Provide them feedback and agree on corrective and preventive actions

Place orders according to the business needs in the right quantities, at the right time & at the best price
Keep up-to-date suppliers, bill of materials & raw materials database & standard prices, so that orders are always placed correctly
Harmonize & optimize in cooperation with the local management the list of active raw & packaging materials
Report the purchasing activity at local & regional level according to the requested templates & timetables
Report to local management the market trends for the main raw materials which can impact on company financial results
Capture real savings for the organization
Manage Vendors selection & negotiation process
Implement sourcing strategies for key spend categories
Track performance within each spend category & define budgetary impact
Monitor strategy implementation, contract compliance, and drive best practices
Support acquisition strategies by completing due diligence and integration activities for spend


Qualifications and skills

  • Minimum Degree in Economics, Commercial, Business or any relevant discipline
  • Preferably 1-2 years working experience in Purchasing or similar role within a manufacturing industry or fresh graduate with good internship experience will be considered
  • Experience in the flavour, ingredients and foodservice sector is highly preferred
  • Intermediate to Advanced ERP knowledge and Excel
  • Passion for reducing costs and a track record of success in this area
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to manage multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Good planning & project management skills
  • Good skills and knowledge in cost controlling and general financial reporting principles
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under stressful conditions.
  • Know-how on advanced software, systems and IT tools
  • Good Turkish & English Language skills (spoken and written)
  • Highly organised and meticulous to handle documents
