Job purpose

We are currently seeking a market reporter to contribute to an industry-leading publication covering the petroleum coke markets. Petroleum coke is a globally traded solid fuel that is an important input to the cement market as well as an essential feedstock for aluminium. It can also be used in the production of power, steel, glass, and lithium-ion batteries. A product of the refining industry, its supply depends on global refinery economics, including crude markets. The global seaborne freight market also has a significant impact on trade flows. The reporter in this role will follow fundamentals in all of these markets, as well as environmental and economic policy in key markets such as the US, China, India, Turkey, Mexico and Brazil, among others.

The market reporter would work closely with the editor in Washington, DC, to provide timely price information, news and analysis for this market.

Responsibilities

Conduct price assessment work for petroleum coke markets by conversing with industry sources

Support publication editor in petroleum coke assessment process. Write commentaries, news and analysis on petcoke markets

Maintain and build databases and create data products under the supervision of report editor

Work with teams both in the US and globally to coordinate coverage and assessment work

Meet rigorous compliance standards for price reporting and note-keeping

Education and Experience

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, economics, business, or relevant field

Experience editing and writing in a fast-paced, wire-style environment

Experience writing research or data-oriented analysis feature pieces

Analytical and detail-oriented mind, quantitative analytical skills a plus

Strong reporting and writing skills

Networking skills, public speaking skills and understanding of sourcing standards and journalistic best-practices in developing and handling source relationships

Ability to handle multiple tasks on a deadline

Knowledge of commodities, particularly in the petroleum coke market, a plus

Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Turkish, Arabic or other foreign language ability a plus
