Background:

Sened, is an independent non-profit organization established and registered in Türkiye (under No: 27-15-175) in 2013.

•The name “Sened” in Arabic means “support” you could count on.

•Sened, was founded in response to The Syrian catastrophe, which led to critical situations and displacement of internally displaced people (IDPs) within Syria. The individuals who faced hardships due to factors such as repression, human rights abuses, and violence against civilians (including bombings, shelling, and sieges) and the urgent needs of millions of Syrian refugees in Türkiye. Later, our projects expanded to include support for the Turkish hosting community of the Syrian refugees. Our work spans across humanitarian sectors, with a special focus on advocating for the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities (PwDs) and their families.

Job purpose:

The GBV officer is responsible for facilitating women empowerment, psychosocial support, and recreational group sessions aimed at raising awareness on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response, organizing safe space activities for women and girls to support their empowerment, providing information on GBV services and referral pathways and ensure appropriate referrals when needed. Conducting awareness-raising group activities on gender equality, rights-based approaches, and protection mechanisms. Working in coordination with case management and protection teams to support access to GBV services and contributing to program improvement through community feedback. The GBV Officer will carry out both center-based and community-based activities in Gaziantep and, when required, conduct field visits to facilitate access to services and ensure that identified cases are referred to appropriate protection services and receive the necessary support in a timely manner.

 

Duties, Objectives, Competencies:

• Plan, prepare, and deliver women empowerment sessions and recreational activities to women.

• Work closely with the case management team for implementation of response to GBV and prevention of GBV.

• Prepare daily plans prior to every women empowerment session in line with principles of prevention and response of GBV.

• Capacity building related to GBV, Child protection to staff, contractors, and suppliers for ensuring PSEA standards and GBV prevention in the scope of humanitarian principles and Sened’s policies.

• Participate in developing the essential GBV tools and resources, GBV information materials, and activities for women and girls in target communities, and support their implementation.

• Initiate planning for longer-term GBV prevention and response activities, including referral pathways and standard operating procedures.

• Prepare appropriate materials and/or visual aids in advance of the session.

• Provide technical support to maintain high-quality program inputs and outputs in the Protection / GBV in program implementation.

• Conduct pre and post assessment sessions to follow up the beneficiaries’ progress toward their learning and development goals.

• Ensure that all assessments, follow-ups, and weekly progress reports are completed in a timely manner.

• Maintain quality up-to-date documentation on all interactions with beneficiaries.

• Effectively plan, prepare, develop, and implement recreational activities’ tools and resources to demonstrate progress and growth in beneficiaries’ awareness of GBV.

• Positively interact with GBV activities participants and communicate clearly so they feel safe and always respected.

• Ensure inclusive participation by following an age, gender, and types of disabilities-sensitive approach.

• Build trusting relationships with beneficiaries.

• Follow up on the beneficiaries’ well-being, attendance, and specific needs.

• Ensure that all data collected is entered and reported in a timely manner (monthly)

• Contact participants regarding any updates and changes in women empowerment and recreational activities’ schedules and implementations.

• Take part in seminars and outreach events for women who are at risk/victims of GBV.

• Support the direct manager in the capacity of curriculum writing/changing, lesson plans, assessments, reviews, and objectives.

• Collaborate closely with the MEAL team to monitor activities with monitoring tools and development of the tools.

• Respect and apply all principles of PSEA and demonstrate high commitment to report any sexual exploitation and sexual abuse.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

The above-mentioned key tasks and duties are illustrative ones. Other future responsibilities may be assigned to the job at the request of the head of department according to the need.

 

Essential Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, or another relevant field.

• At least 1 certified training in Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response, case management, psychosocial support, child protection, or related protection areas.

• Minimum 2 years of professional experience in humanitarian or social service work.

• At least 2 years of experience in Gender-Based Violence (GBV) case management, including survivor-centered intake, assessment, safety planning, referrals, and follow-up services.

• Experience in working with persons with disabilities, children, or other vulnerable populations.

• Knowledge of international protection principles, survivor-centered approaches, and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

• Ability to use standard GBV case management tools and forms, including intake, assessment, safety planning, referral, and follow-up documentation.

• Fluency in Turkish, English both written and spoken (C1 level or above).

• Knowledge of Arabic is considered an asset.

• Turkish citizenship.

 

Desired Requirements:

• At least 2 years of proven professional experience in the provision of GBV services.

• At least 3 years of experience in NGOs/INGOs.

• Experience in conducting field GBV and home visits in Gaziantep or Southeast Türkiye.

• Experience in managing and reporting GBV data using digital case management and data collection tools such as Kobo, ActivityInfo, and CommCare.

• Strong skills in reporting, documentation, and data management.

• Previous employment in Gaziantep or other Southeast Türkiye provinces, with knowledge of the local refugee context.

 

Technical Competencies:

• Ability to conduct intake, needs assessments, care/action planning, referrals, follow-ups, and case closure in line with case management SOPs.

• Strong knowledge of humanitarian protection standards (IASC, Sphere, CP/GBV guidelines) and their practical application.

• Proficiency in using standardized forms and tools (intake, vulnerability assessment, protection risk analysis).

• Familiarity with local and national service providers; ability to establish and maintain safe and effective referrals.

• Knowledge of inclusive approaches, including the Washington Group Questions, to ensure accessibility and equitable support for persons with disabilities.

• Skills in conducting field visits, engaging communities, and identifying vulnerable individuals.

• Ability to maintain accurate case files, confidentiality, and produce clear case summaries, reports, and statistics.

• Ability to communicate effectively with children, caregivers, and vulnerable groups in Arabic and Turkish, ensuring dignity and cultural sensitivity.
